  • Business and Personal Assistant To Help With Challenges and Overwhelm – Testimonial

    Lucy has been working with me as both a business and personal assistant. The tasks and chores of my life were feeling overwhelming and I was in need of help. I like it that she is very organized and thinks strategically. We have tackled my business accounting systems and also some home organizing. She takes care of my Quickbooks online bank reconciliation and tax preparation. There is no job too big or too small. One afternoon she created an email group list for my clients as well as a data base which included significant info about each one. Additionally, we worked on my will notification information, as well as researched how to sell my daughter-in-law’s used wedding dress. Beyond the actual tasks accomplished, she has been an excellent ear and strategist – she has helped me think through some of the challenges I have been faced with in pragmatic and insightful way! I recommend her highly! (FYI she also edited my website!)

  • Planning a Smoky Mountain Getaway

    Trip planning Smoky Mountain GetawayAn Illinois-based client was planning a return trip to the Smoky Mountains and had a number of concerns she wanted me to research and provide solutions for. They ranged from:
    • finding a variety of gluten-free restaurants (surprisingly plentiful for the area) in four different towns that her whole family could enjoy;
    • to finding the best and fastest route during summer vacation time to drive to Asheville, North Carolina;
    • to finding well-stocked supermarkets that offer a wide range of gluten-free as well as organic choices.

    I prepared a number of detailed reports that she could access on her phone when Wifi was available during her trip, and also suggested two very helpful apps I had found that she could use while traveling: DineGF (Android, free) and Find Me GF.

    She’s all set for her Smoky Mountain getaway armed with places to eat and smooth travels.

    What’s the Client’s Verdict?

    Lucy didn’t hesitate when I asked for more detailed information on my concerns over traffic congestion and called the visitors bureau for me. She found someone who had just traveled the route and could provide exactly the details I needed to feel confident in our plans. We can’t wait to embark on our Smoky Mountain getaway and make a side trip to Asheville.”

  • Gluten-Free Travels in Italy

    Atravel planning in florence italy Florida-based client wants to go to a retreat in Tuscany, Italy in September, followed by a few days in Florence, with accommodations near the Duomo in the Historic district so she could do all her sightseeing by walking.

    Sounds divine, right? Oh did I mention she is also gluten-intolerant?

    I found her a great flight with the shortest lay-over in Zurich, a wonderful range of accommodations to fit her budget and yes, a selection of gluten-free restaurants in the Historic district where she can celebrate her 60th birthday. I also suggested she carry a card to all restaurants that said: “Senza Glutine” aka gluten-free.

    She’s anxiously awaiting her upcoming trip knowing she’s now got a plan in place that meets all of her needs.

    What’s the Client’s Verdict?

    Lucy was exceptionally helpful with arrangements for my first solo trip to the Tuscany/Florence region of Italy. She narrowed the myriad options to a few that were a good fit. Then I just had to pick my favorite. I’m all booked and ready to fly!”

  • Urgent Request for a Dog Trainer

    find-a-dog-trainer-asap-for-german-shepardMy client unexpectedly acquired a sweet German Shepherd named Karma, formerly known as Marley, and found out very quickly that she needed… well the whole household needed dog training pronto. Karma, still in the puppy phase, also needs a lot of walks. I got the call at the start of a hot holiday weekend and getting in touch with the right trainer and walker was on par with getting in to see the dermatologist! Difficult, but not impossible!

    I gave her a selection of highly qualified trainers and walkers who were willing to make house calls and she is currently interviewing them and checking them out. I have no doubt she will find the best fit for Karma very soon!

    After learning the basics, my client plans to start Karma’s training as a service dog.

  • Traveling with a Teenager to the Big Apple!

    new york trip planningMy client wanted to take her soon-to-be 16-year-old daughter to the Big Apple aka NYC to celebrate this momentous event with a little detour to Rochester, New York on the way. Rochester, while a great town, is one of those places that has no direct flights from the West Coast. You either have to leave at the crack of dawn, primarily from San Francisco, or if you leave later you arrive mostly after midnight. A real toss up!

    Cost was another issue. I searched for deals on all the usual travel websites for days, but after determining which of the primary carriers were the most reasonably priced, I spent my time on their sites. I suggested Delta and it was a perfect fit of low cost and reasonable arrival time. The rest of their flights were on Jet Blue—the best price and the best selection of flights. She was concerned about long TSA lines at JFK Airport, and luckily I found out that Jet Blue just started offering a limited special service called Even More Speed. For only $10 more, you can go through the TSA pre-checked line. I heard later that getting through security took only 20 minutes because of this versus the quoted 3 hours+!

    My client needed a hotel in NYC and was appalled by the cost. I found out what membership groups she was part of and she ended up booking through aarp.org. She had so many Reward for Good points, that she ended up saving over $150.00 on her hotel by using some of these points. I found the perfect mid-town hotel just off Herald Square, and the room overlooked the Empire State building. Can’t get better than that, especially at sunset!

    I also found them the best price to tour Top of the Rock to take photo’s, the best bus tour to take off the city (only a few blocks from their hotel), and recommended and booked for them a variety of restaurants to enjoy.

    I also introduced them to Uber group rides, the most low cost ride option you can take. They loved meeting so many other riders and drivers from all over the world, and they got to see a lot more of the city this way.

    What’s the Client’s Verdict?

    The trip planning was great, thank you Lucy! As a photographer, going to NY is an amazing experience. I got to visit the George Eastman Museum, then go to the city. I took the big red buses for tourists to get the feeling of NYC and what district/area I would want to visit. SoHo was my favorite place with all the modern food shops and art. Overall I am very thankful to have been in NY for a week and a half and to have such a smooth, well-planned trip.”

  • Genealogy Research

    geneology research where relative was buriedHave you ever wanted to find where a relative was buried? My client didn’t have much information, but wanted to know where her grandparents were buried over 65 years ago. The only clues I had were the names, possible year(s) they died and that it was somewhere in the state of New York. After a few hours of research I was able to locate the cemetery and my client can schedule a trip to pay their respects and view their gravestones.

    My client was shocked to discover the location and now they have the opportunity to learn more about their grandparents’ lives in that town. Interesting point to remember for immigrants: their names may change from the Ellis Island documentation. Looking at a 1920 census clarified which first names they were using in their daily life, which made it possible for me to find them.

  • Researching Antiques and Retro Items to Sell

    Researching Antiques and Retro Items to Sell

    are these historical books valuableI spend a lot of time doing in-depth research on a wide variety of service providers for my clients. A recent long-term project was helping one of my clients down-size and consolidate antique and retro furniture, historical books, etc. I discovered a whole new world of local auction houses, house liquidators, private Ebay sellers, and so on. We got price quotes and were able to decide the best avenue in which to sell the product, and/or to decide what should be donated instead. As a result of this project, I became an Amazon and Ebay seller for my own things, and most likely for future clients!
